A Mentos candy with stitches drawn with a food-safe pen forms a baseball on this fun cupcake. The bat is a shaped caramel, but you could get the same effect with a Tootsie Roll, Laffy Taffy or other moldable candy. Don’t forget to wash your hands or wear gloves!

What You Need: 1 cupcake; chocolate frosting; wrapped caramel; mint Mentos candy; black food-safe pen.

How to Make It: Frost cupcake. Use food-safe pen to draw stitches on Mentos for ball. Shape caramel into a bat. Place on cupcake.

What You Need: 1 cupcake; green frosting; red, white, and blue star sprinkles; paper flag; foil-wrapped chocolate football.

How to Make It: Frost cupcake. Insert flag pick and rest football next to it. Sprinkle a few stars.

The specialty metal tip used to make the grass on this golfer cupcake is optional. You can always just use green frosting!

What You Need: 1 cupcake; frosting tinted green; metal tip #233 and pastry bag; foil-wrapped golf ball chocolate; toothpick; scrap of red paper or cardstock; scissors; glue.

How to Make It. Use pastry bag and green icing to pipe grass all over surface of cupcake. (You can pipe it neatly, or more free-form, like in the example). Place golf ball candy on cupcake. Cut triangle from cardstock and glue to toothpick for flag. Stick in cupcake next to golf ball.

You may have seen baseball cupcakes with the stitches piped in red icing or gel. Those are fun, but what if you don’t want to haul out the pastry bag and tips, or your hand is a little unsteady? Licorice can even the score.

What You Need: 1 cupcake; white or off-white frosting; red string licorice (such as Twizzlers Pull-N-Peel); scissors.

How to Make It: Frost cupcake. Cut strand of licorice long enough to curve in a U shape on top of the cupcake. Cut about 9 smaller bits of licorice in equal lengths. Arrange long strand in curve and press slightly into frosting. Arrange smaller pieces on top for stitching. (They should stick to the larger strand.)

Baseball season is officially underway. I know because my husband is already yelling at the TV. Here’s a classic way to make cupcakes that look like baseballs. The trick is to use even pressure when you’re piping the lines, and stop squeezing before you pull away.
What You Need: 1 cupcake; white frosting; red icing in premade tube; plastic round tip or metal tip #2 and coupler.
How to Make It: Frost cupcake white. Using even pressure, pipe two curved lines as shown, and on top of them pipe V shapes for the baseball stitching.
