Tootsie Roll turtle cupcake

This happy green turtle cupcake is topped with tasty Tootsie Rolls and chocolate-covered raisins. Wearing plastic gloves, you can mold Tootsie Rolls, caramels, Starbursts, Airheads and other candies into all kinds of fun shapes. This design is similar to one I saw in a Betty Crocker publication.

What You Need: 1 cupcake; frosting tinted green; chocolate-covered raisins such as Raisinets; Tootsie Rolls (any size); toothpick.

How to Make It: Frost cupcake green. Add 6 to 10 Raisinets to top for turtle shell “spots.” Wearing gloves, shape chunks of Tootsie roll into four legs, a tail and a head. Use toothpick to draw eyes and a mouth. Add to cupcake.

Turtle cupcake

Turtles may move slowly, but these cupcakes are sure quick to make! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

What You Need: 1 cupcake; green frosting; 2 green sugar-coated fruit gel candies; 6 green M&Ms; black food-safe marker; scissors.

How to Make It: Frost cupcake. Use food-safe marker to draw two dots on one gel candy for eyes and place near edge of cupcake. Use scissors to cut other gel into five triangular pieces, with one of the pieces being thinner for the tail. Arrange as pictured. Add M&Ms.

These turtle cupcakes have legs! Well, Junior Mint legs anyway. They’re fun for kids and adults alike.

What You Need: 1 cupcake; frosting tinted green; 5 green M&Ms (any shade that contrasts with the frosting); 4 Junior Mints; 1 green Necco wafer; 2 candy eyes (or use writing icing or mini M&Ms); red writing icing.

How to Make It: Frost cupcake. Add Junior Mint legs and M&M spots. Add eyes and a piped mouth to the Necco wafer and place on cupcake to form turtle head.
